When we think about staying somewhere during a trip,
it often feels like a special,
non-ordinary experience.
However, when we look back on the places we stayed
during our travels,
what remained in our memories
was not the facilities or services of the place,
but the simple moments we spent there.

As we traveled,
we found ourselves spending more time
staying in one place,
living as if we were part of the local environment,
rather than simply visiting tourist attractions.
We would buy ingredients at local supermarkets,
cook in the kitchen of the house we stayed in,
visit nearby cafés,
and take walks around the neighborhood.
There were also occasions
when we stayed in entire house rentals,
rather than hotels or traditional inns.
Using the kitchen of the house
to cook our own meals,
and enjoying them
with tableware and glasses
that reflected the owner’s personal taste.

It felt as though
we were being welcomed
into someone’s living space,
where the lifestyle of the host
and the way of life in that place
naturally appeared
within the space itself.
Rather than simply being a base
to sleep during a trip,
a place to stay became
where we spent our time while traveling.
Through these experiences,
we began to feel that
a place to stay is something
that shapes the quality of time we spend there.

The time we experienced while traveling
quietly remained with us,
even after returning home.
We hope to continue
valuing this way of staying
through our own work.
